How this works

Raising 10,000 gallons by 1 ppm takes 0.083 lb of available chlorine. Multiply by your volume, your daily loss and the number of days, and you have the pounds of chlorine the season needs. We price that at the cheapest and the median $/lb of chlorine across the in-stock listings we track. Plain trichlor tablets are 90% chlorine; 12.5% liquid carries about 1.2 lb per gallon.

Trichlor adds about 0.6 ppm of cyanuric acid (CYA) for every 1 ppm of chlorine. Only water lost to splash-out, backwashing and draining takes CYA back out, so the estimate below assumes none and shows the worst case.
